ABOUT US
Meet Our Dedicated Team
Helen L. Fox
Owner/Director since 1983
Our Commitment to CareÂ
Helen's philosophy centers on the conviction that a child's care should be second only to home. Her efforts in elevating the standard of child care have been recognized by parents and the local media alike. She states, "Parents leave their children every day at The Honey Tree knowing that the love and care they receive from us is second only to home. That’s the greatest gift you can give a parent or a child.”
A Staff Built on Love
Helen credits much of the center's success to her exceptional team. "I look for warm, caring, loving individuals to work with the children," she says. This commitment to staff excellence is evident in the center's low turnover, with many employees having been with The Honey Tree for over 10 years, and some for more than 25 years. "We don’t just watch the children all day - we know them!"
Minnie Walker
Co-Director
Minnie Walker is The Honey Tree’s dedicated Co-Director, a cornerstone of our team since joining on August 14, 1989. With over 35 years of experience, she oversees daily operations, from staffing and monitoring classroom quality to opening the center every day, ensuring a warm, safe environment is ready for families each morning.
Minnie's commitment goes beyond administration; she is a true team player, often found helping in the Infant Center, assisting with bus runs, or even preparing nutritious meals in the kitchen - a special treat for the children (and staff). She works closely with all staff to uphold the highest standards for every child's welfare, embodying the center's mission: "a home away from home where every child is cherished."
Shelley Rahman
Office Manager & Curriculum Director
Shelley Rahman serves as both the Office Manager and Curriculum Director at The Honey Tree, where she has been a vital part of the center's success since January 6, 1997. As the daughter of our Co-Director, Minnie Walker, Shelley has grown up with the center (the owner has known her since age three!) and brings a lifelong devotion to its mission.
In her leadership roles, she is instrumental in:
- Curriculum Development: Shelley provides creative guidance and mentorship to teachers, ensuring the curriculum is dynamic, engaging, and rooted in developmental best practices.
- Office Operations: She is a key member of the Office Support Staff, making sure administrative and daily operations run smoothly for families and staff.
Shelley is also an awesome and dedicated Pre-K teacher, working diligently to prepare her students for Kindergarten. Her creative, caring, and devoted approach has made a profoundly positive difference in the lives of her students.
WHAT PARENTS SAY?
KIND WORDS FROM OUR HONEY TREE FAMILIES
April 2019
I just want to say the team at Honey Tree are beyond amazing! It was extremely difficult for me to even think of having my little 5 month old at a day care. They were very understanding and made the transition very comfortable! When I picked up my baby he was all smiles! I am so grateful! I 100% recommended to all mommies out there. Thank you ladies!

My son is a year old and has been in attendance for 5 months now. With having a bad experience with his previous daycare, I was extremely worried and protective about who’s care to leave him in. Within a month or two that all went away because I saw and felt how much they cared! Not to mention my son has learned so much since being there!!!! I’m so very pleased with my decision.

When I transitioned my two children (2 and 8 mos.) to a full time daycare, I had many requirements; I desperately wanted my children to be in a “home away from home” environment.  After our first few days, I was astounded by how nurturing the ladies were at The Honey Tree; they truly loved my little ones!  I am equally pleased with their reliable and consistent care.  I regularly find them on the floor, at eye level with my children, playing and fostering new skills.  As a whole, we have gained a second family.  The employees at The Honey Tree cherish and care for my children as I do.  I can’t help but think this is a result of amazing leadership.  Thank you to The Honey Tree for your love and fantastic care!  We will see you tomorrow!
