
The first day of preschool is a major milestone. While it’s exciting, it’s completely normal for both children and parents to feel a bit of anxiety. Here is how you can prepare.
Start the Transition Early
Don't wait until the night before to start talking about preschool. Begin the conversation a few weeks in advance. Read books about going to school, talk about the fun activities they will do, and drive by the school so they become familiar with the building.

The Night Before: A Checklist
A smooth morning starts the night before. Use this checklist to ensure you aren't rushing:

Pack the backpack: Include a change of clothes, any required forms, and a comforting item (if the school allows it).

Prep the lunch/snacks: Cut up fruits, pack water bottles, and have everything ready in the fridge.

Lay out clothes: Let your child choose their outfit to give them a sense of control.

Early bedtime: Ensure they get 10-12 hours of sleep to wake up refreshed.
The Art of the Drop-Off
The drop-off is often the hardest part. Create a special goodbye routine—like a secret handshake, two kisses and a hug, or a high-five. Once you do the routine, say "I love you, I will be back after nap time," and leave confidently.
